Privacy Policy

This policy covers Hey Chat Transcript Backup, Ethan’s personal macOS utility and optional Google Drive backup.

Local speech and transcripts

Speech recognition runs on the Mac. When transcript saving is on, the app stores recognised text, approximate recognition timestamps, and model and microphone labels locally. Recognition may include other people or background media. The transcript archive does not save raw audio.

Optional Google Drive backup

If you connect Google Drive, the backup uploads transcript snapshots to your own Google account. It requests the Google Drive file permission, which permits access only to files created or explicitly opened with this app. The backup reads its own uploaded files to check that transfers completed correctly.

Google access and refresh tokens are stored in a private local configuration used to authenticate the backup. They are not included in transcript snapshots or published on this website. Google processes files stored in Google Drive under its own privacy policy.

Use and sharing

Transcript data is used to provide the local archive and the backup you enabled. This tool does not sell it, serve advertising with it, or send it to a separate hosted transcription or model-training service. This support website uses no analytics scripts, advertising or cookies. Its hosting provider may process ordinary request logs.

The use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Retention and deletion

Local transcripts and cloud backups remain until you delete them. Stopping listening, turning saving off or disconnecting Google does not erase earlier copies. To remove all retained data, delete both the local archive and its files in Google Drive. You can revoke access in your Google Account connections.
